Who’s That Watching You? Turn a Tree Stump Into a Funny Garden Face.

A tree stump can become a unique piece of garden decor with a little creativity. By combining cast-off objects with natural elements like branches and twigs, you can create a funny and distinctive face.

Old bicycle rims can be used to create oversized eyes or glasses, while a worn saddle can make a surprising nose. Handlebars and a battered hat can add a bold, angular accent to the face.

Decorating a tree stump is a simple process. A stump does not need major surgery to become a focal point in your yard. A few strong elements, placed to follow the shape of the wood, can usually do the trick. The stranger the object you use, the better it tends to work.

Bicycle rims, for example, are perfect for creating eye-catching eyes. Fixed to the front or sides of the trunk, they look like enormous spectacles and give the face a comic expression. Using two rims of slightly different sizes can add even more humor to the face.

A retired saddle can also get a new job as an improbably large nose, while handlebars can add a bold accent. Adding a striking piece of headgear, like an old hat or discarded container, can underline the personality of the stump character.

Natural materials like twigs, branches, and bark can be used to give a stump a face full of expression. Twigs and branches can work as eyebrows, a mouth, or an unmissable mustache.

A well-shaped piece of wood or a short stub of branch can serve as the nose, while fine twigs can be bundled and splayed into something bushy. Bark, pine cones, and smaller sticks can fill in the details and sharpen individual features.

The natural structure of the stump, including cracks, bumps, and characteristic bark, can become part of the face itself. This is why no two figures ever turn out the same.

Small changes can shift the whole expression of a stump face. A wide-brimmed hat can read completely differently from a plain cap, and round metal rims can create a character that nothing made of curved branches could match.

You can decorate every stump in your yard, and they do not have to look alike. By combining old objects from the shed with natural materials gathered from the yard, you can create unique and surprising features.

Using galvanized or stainless screws can help prevent rust streaks from running down the bark after the first rain. Mounting heavy metal parts into sound wood, rather than soft, rotting sections, can also help ensure the face lasts.

Wire bundling twigs together before attaching them can help prevent them from falling apart. Stepping back 15 to 20 feet while placing the eyes can also help you get a sense of whether the features are spaced correctly.
